Harleston Gallery opened in April 2001, as a small, independent, contemporary gallery, to showcase the work of practising artists and makers from across the region. The gallery has gone from strength to strength, and an in house coffee shop opened in 2003, specialising in a range of coffees, teas, homemade cakes and lunches . An enclosed courtyard garden is open for al fresco dining on fine days.
The gallery has recently been accepted onto the Arts Council's Own-Art scheme, whereby larger pieces of art work can be bought over a period of months on an interest free basis. The scheme will become operative later in the year. There is a full exhibition programme in operation, and previews are well attended. The gallery has also become something of a meeting place for artists and other arts orientated members of the public, helping to raise the profile of the small market town of Harleston, as a venue for the arts.
May 2005 saw the birth of the 1st Harleston and Waveney Art Trail, with 28 local professional artists and makers, opening their studios and gardens, to the public over three weekends. The Trail will become an annual event.

Formed in 2007 as a community village shop, it was one of the first Community Interest Companies (CICs) in Suffolk.
Over 40 volunteers work in the shop 7 days a week, along with 2 paid managers, Lorraine and Julie. A Board of directors attempts to steer us in a straight direction.
As well as providing day to day goods, the shop champions local food producers - and celebrates with a Graze & Buy Local Fiesta every year.
Our new landlords, Harleston Information Plus, (formed in 2001 as a result of a government initiative), work to encourage the development of market town partnerships and regenerate town and rural communities.
