Wednesday Market

The Town Council operates a Wednesday Market, said to have been in place since 1259.

The location is in the centre of Harleston in the Market Place and up the adjacent Exchange Street.

A small number of stalls (approximately 10) trade from about 6am in the morning to 4 pm each Wednesday. The type of stalls include a greengrocer, fishmonger, a card shop, a flower and plant stall, a tool and DIY equipment stall, a stall that sells electric wheelchairs for the disabled, a stall that sells clothes, bags and handbags, and many more.

The traders offer goods at keen prices as you would expect for a market of this kind.

Harleston Farmers Market

The Harleston Farmers Market has been operating very successfully for nearly four years – we opened in September 2002. From relatively small beginnings we have grown and now, on the third Saturday of every month, we have over 20 stalls selling a wide variety of the best high quality food, all sourced locally from within a radius of 20 miles. This means a minimum of road mileage ensuring freshness and is also environmentally friendly.
There is Pork and Bacon from Gloucester Old Spot pigs, Young Lamb, Beef, Chicken and Turkey; a refrigerated van offers a huge list of smoked and fresh fish, Game in season and a wide variety of smoked products and ready made foods of all kinds; apple juice, fruits and vegetables in season, eggs, beer from a small brewery which makes unusual beer, home made cakes, pies and bread; chutneys, pickles, preserves, local honey and a nursery with everything you need for the garden. To complement all of these, there are several local craft people selling their own beautifully made work.
The market is held every third Saturday at The Swan Hotel in the Thoroughfare and is open from 9am to 1pm. parking is available as well as refreshments.
New traders are always welcome if they have something different to add and all enquires should be made to the Market Manager, Joy Hensley, telephone 01379 854887
